Η Dido Florian Cloud de Bounevialle O' Malley Armstrong άλλαξε και καλά έκανε το όνομά της σε Dido, μιας και όπως λέει η ίδια το όνομα σιδηρόδρομος που της έδωσαν οι δικοί της ήταν η χειρότερη φάρσα που θα μπορούσαν να της κάνουν σαν παιδί. Το Florian δε είναι αντρικό Γερμανικό όνομα και μας θυμίζει λιγάκι το στόρι πίσω από το τραγούδι του Johnny Cash "My name is Sue". Γεννημένη ως άλλος Ιησούς την μέρα των Χριστουγέννων στην Αγγλία από μάνα ποιήτρια και πατέρα Ιρλανδό εκδότη βιβλίων δε θα μπορούσα παρά να επηρεαστεί καλλιτεχνικά και από τους δύο. Ο μεγαλύτερος αδερφός της Roll Armstrong είναι μέλος της ηλεκτρονικής μπάντας Faithless. Το όνομα Dido Armstrong είναι και πλέον το official όνομά της και όχι παρατσούκλι και το έχει πάρει από την βασίλισσα της Τύρου Διδώ που πήγε στην Αφρική και ίδρυσε την Καρχηδόνα. Ξέρει να παίζει πιάνο, φλάουτο, κιθάρα και βιολί, και φυσικά διαθέτει μια φωνή τόσο γαλήνια και βελούδινη που όταν την ακούς ξέρεις ότι είναι αυτή χωρίς δεύτερη σκέψη. Είναι παντρεμένη και έχει ένα αγοράκι 2 περίπου χρονών. Σαν Dido έχει κυκλοφορήσει 4 άλμπουμ, με τα 2 πρώτα να σημειώνουν φοβερή επιτυχία σε Αγγλία και Αμερική αλλά και παγκοσμίως. Το χαρακτηριστικό της κούρεμα ονομάστηκε από τους παπαράτσι "Dido flip" όταν πρωτοεμφανίστηκε με το δίσκο "No angel". Η 41 χρονών Dido είναι χωρίς αμφιβολία ένα rock θηλυκό με φωνή και στίχους που καταφέρνουν να βγάζουν στον ακροατή τα πιο γλυκά καταθλιπτικά συναισθήματα.
1. Faithless
Έχει κάνει φωνητικά σε καθένα από τα 6 άλμπουμ των Faithless από το 1996 μέχρι το 2010. Επίσης έχει γράψει μαζί με τους Faithless το τραγούδι "One step too far" για το άλμπουμ των Faithless "Outrospective" το 2002.

2. Santana
Η Dido κάνει φωνητικά στο τραγούδι του κιθαρίστα Carlos Sanatana "Feels like fire" το 2003 για το άλμπουμ του "Shaman".

3. Annie Lennox
Μαζί με την Annie και 22 ακόμα γυναίκες τραγουδίστριες, η Dido συμμετέχει στο τραγούδι "Sing" για την μεταφορά του AIDS από τη μάνα στα αγέννητα παιδιά της Αφρικής, το 2007.

4. Eminem
Ο Eminem σύστησε την Dido στο Αμερικάνικο κοινό, όταν δανείστηκε το sample από το τραγούδι της Dido "Thank you" για το τραγούδι του "Stan", με την ίδια να πρωταγωνιστεί στο video clip.

5. Dusted
Στο side project του αδερφού της Rollo Armstrong "Dusted" κάνει φωνητικά στα τραγούδα "Time takes time", Hurt u" και "Winter" ενώ έχει γράψει και άλλα τρία τραγούδια του δίσκου "Safe from Harm" το 2005.

6. Britney Spears
Έχει συμβάλει στο γράψιμο του τραγουδιού της Britney "I'm not a girl, not yet a woman" το οποίο κυκλοφόρησε για την ταινία της Britney "Crossroads".

7. Rufus Wainwright
Μαζί με τον Αμερικανό-Καναδό Rufus έκαναν το ντουέτο "I eat dinner (when the hunger's gone)" για το soundtrack της ταινίας Brigdet Jones:The edge of reason.

8. Youssou N' Dour
Μαζί με τον Youssou τραγούδησαν στο Live 8 στο Λονδίνο τα τραγούδια "Thank you" και "Seven seconds".

9. Citizen Cope
Στο τρίτο της άλμπουμ που δε γνώρισε και τόση επιτυχία παρόλο που κέρδισε το Grammy, υπάρχει η συνεργασία με τον Αμερικανό Citizen Cope στο τραγούδι "Burnin' love".

10. A.R. Rahman
Για τις ανάγκες του soundtrack της ταινίας 127 hours συμμετέχει στο ντουέτο "If i rise" μαζί με τον Ινδό συνθέτη και τραγουδιστή A.R. Rahman.

Still on about the Western suburbs of Athens. Exciting, multifaceted place that it is, and hardly known by tourists. So I'm letting you in on some Athenian gems here: how the real Greeks in Athens live, breathe and play.
Saturday night I went out to play, at this great place called Arch. It's a café and a bar, decked out in dark wood reminiscent of an American style beer barn or saloon – minus sawdust on the floor I suppose (not that I've ever been to one of these Yankee yahoo joints – though one day …), and minus the mechanized rodeo horse! This place Arch though is far too laid back for a rodeo ride.
Arch was nicely full – of mainly Uni student agers. And though Kiedis (Red Hot Chillies) strode his stuff on one of the large flat screen TV's adorning a wooden or brick wall here and there, amongst the beer signs and various paraphernalia (like a leaning mini drum kit on the ceiling, acting as a lamp shade; tilted over to expose ambient light), the patrons sat at their heavy wooden benches and tables, chatting and grinning and drinking and eating, yes, all at once.
Then, maddeningly for me, AC/DC came on, and I just wanted to Parrtiee!, wanted to raise my fist in the air and yell out 'hey everybody, I'm from Downunder too', but the people at Arch went on … grinning and chatting and drinking and eating. To be fair it was early (for Saturday night Greeks' going out time), about 10.30pm at this stage, and the DJ wasn't on yet, so I'm sure this was the pre-getting fired up time. We left at about 11.30; rather early – but the place doesn't close until the wee hours – and believe me I would've been most happy to stay till then but we had come at 8.30pm and weren't drinking, so definitely later next time.
We ate their house burger which was totally home-made, fresh and delicious and reasonably priced. They have heaps of different beers, not to mention coffee and all beverages and other foods such as a german sausage platter, and salads - at all hours.
All this fun and food amongst oldies like Queen blaring, or rather, pouring out at a reasonable modulation of I-can-hear–you-talking-ever-so-slightly-straining-to-be-heard sound, as well as more modern rock edge current favourites such as the Black Keys. And alas, there's even time for some harder numbers like Axl Rose in his bandanaed glory, belting out a tune accompanied by video clip, with the playlist getting heavier as the night progresses one gets the impression.
When we arrived there were many tables with reserved signs on them, and most others were occupied. As my friend and I eyed the place for a table (getting a good dose of the vibe in the meantime – very comfortable and contented feel) a young biker looking guy (shaved head, black T shirt with medieval type graphics on it) politely asked if we'd like a certain table but advised that it was booked at 11pm. This was the maitre de, and what a man he was, even finding us the promised chair that was missing and checking if we were OK, (not to mention saluting us out later), while a cute, robust, red haired punk waitress with a leopard printed singlet top and black leggings and army boots calmly took our order with her heavily but tastefully tattooed arms motioning as she wrote and arranged coasters.
Overall, a marvellous place with a friendly vibe. Definitely worth a visit.

Ο Norman Quentin Cook είναι ο γνωστός Άγγλος DJ με το παρατσούκλι Fatboy Slim. Γεννημένος στο μεγάλο προάστιο της Αγγλίας Bromley και μεγαλωμένος στο Brighton, ξέρει να παίζει κιθάρα, μπάσο και ντραμς. Από νεαρή κιόλας ηλικία ξεκίνησε να παίζει ως DJ σε μαγαζιά και να συμμετέχει σε μπάντες ως frontman. Το 1996 υιοθέτησε το παρατσούκλι Fatboy Slim από τα ξυραφάκια Gillette Slim και Gillette fatboy. Εθισμένος με το αλκοόλ για μεγάλο διάστημα της ζωής του κατάφερε να απεξαρτηθεί μετά από μια μεγάλη μάχη σε κέντρο απεξάρτησης. Έχει μια κόρη και ένα γιο με την Tv persona Zoe Ball και μετά από ένα μικρό διάστημα χωρισμού ζουν ευτυχισμένοι μαζί στο σπίτι τους στο Somerset. Ο Cook έχει χαρακτηριστεί από τις 50 μπάντες που πρέπει να δεις Live πριν πεθάνεις, μιας και οι συναυλίες του είναι ασφυκτικά κλεισμένες προκαλώντας συμφόρηση στους δρόμους της Αγγλίας όπου και αν εμφανίζεται. Αν και η φωνή του δεν ακούγεται, η μουσική του είναι τόσο δυνατή που είναι σαν να τον ακούς πίσω από τα samples και τα ριφ των τραγουδιών του. Ένας DJ πρότυπο και παράδειγμα προς μίμηση για όλους τους επίδοξους DJ του κόσμου!
1. The housemartins
Την δεκαετία του 80 ο Cook παίζει μπάσο στην indie pop μπάντα The housemartins και το τραγούδι "Caravan of love" που τραγουδάνε όλοι μαζί α καπέλα γνωρίζει μεγάλη επιτυχία.

2. Beats International
Μετά την αποχώρησή του από τους The housemartins δημιουργεί το ηλεκτρονικό γκρουπ Beats International, το οποίο σημειώνει αμέσως επιτυχία με το τραγούδι "Dub be good to me" το 1990.

3. Freak Power
Το 1993 δημιουργεί τους Freak Power μια acid jazz μπάντα που κρατάει μόλις 3 χρόνια και το single τους "Turn on, tune in, cop out" σκαρφαλώνει αμέσως τα UK charts.

4. Pizzaman
Μαζί με τον John Reid δημιουργούν το ηλεκτρονικό ντουέτο Pizzaman το 1993 και κυκλοφορούν ένα δίσκο από τον οποίο 3 τραγούδια μπήκαν στο UK chart.

5. Macy Gray
Ως Fatboy Slim πλέον συνεργάζεται στο τρίτο του άλμπουμ "Halfway between the gutter and the stars" με την Αμερικανίδα Macy Gray σε δύο τραγούδια "Love life" και "Demons".

6. BPA
Μαζί με τον David Byrne και τον Dizzee Rascal συνεργάστηκε στο τραγούδι των The Brighton Port Authority "Toe Jam" το 2008. Ένα side project του Cook στο οποίο συνεργάστηκε και με τον Iggy pop στο τραγούδι "He's Frank" για το soundtrack της σειράς Heroes.

7. Lateef
Το 2006 ο Cook ταξίδεψε στην Κούβα και έγραψε δύο τραγούδια με τίτλο "Shelter" τραγουδισμένα με την φωνή της Lateef.
